Fundraiser launched to help Irish mum and baby in New Zealand get home after sudden death of husband

An appeal has been launched to help a young Irish mother and her baby get home from New Zealand following the sudden passing of her husband.

A fundraising page has been set up to help raise money for mum Sinead Lalor who has lived in New Zealand since 2013.

Sinead and her late husband Billy welcomed their first baby boy Liam a year ago.

Following Billy's death a fellow Irish mother and friend, Sarah Dixon started the appeal which has managed to raise over $40,000 NZ (€23,500) in just four days.

The page's description reads: "With Sinead being on maternity leave Bill was the main income earner in his role as a firefighter.

"This has come as a massive shock to everyone who knows Sinead and Bill and this page is to try and help them navigate a really tough next few weeks."

Funds will be used to assist in the repatriation of Bill's body to Ireland and to help with Sinead and Liam also returning home.

It will also help with bills over the coming few weeks.

Anyone looking to donate to the fund can do so by heading to the Givealittle website here.
