Fundraiser launched by fans to help pay for clean up at Bellshill football ground gutted by fire

A fundraiser has been set up by fans of a football club in Bellshill after it was gutted in a fire this morning.

The dressing rooms, entrance turnstiles, stores area and catering kiosk at the home ground of Bellshill Athletic FC at Rockburn Park suffered severe damage in the blaze.

And fans have launched a CrowdFund campaign to assist financially with the clean up of the facility and to help return the ground at Rockburn Park to a safe condition when the football commences again following the current lockdown.

So far over £900 has been raised in the past two hours of a target of £5000.

Fan David Brown, who set up the fundraiser, wrote: "Bellshill Athletic FC are a community-based football club with a long history of over 100 years competing at Junior level. They have recently taken the decision to move into the Senior ranks of Scottish Football.

"In the early hours of April 12th 2020, their homeground, Rockburn Park, was attacked by vandals and arsonists, with the early signs looking like the dressing rooms, entrance turnstiles, stores area and catering kiosk being totally destroyed.

"As a supporter of the club, I am appealing to the people of Bellshill and the wider footballing community to assist financially with the clean up of the facility and to somehow get Rockburn Park into a safe condition for when football recommences after lock-down".
