Fundraiser launched by desperate family to get lifeline for brave son, 14, with severe medical conditions

Duy is his family's bundle of joy. Smiling and upbeat, he's made a mark on his community by becoming an honorary garda.

But the 14-year-old boy suffers with a range of complex medical conditions.

He is confined to a wheelchair, is non verbal and requires 24-hour assistance and care.

His family are appealing to the public to get funds for a new wheelchair accessible car.

Their car is Duy's only mode of transport in Balbriggan, vital for him to attend his various appointments.

Suffering from severe epilepsy since he was a baby, Duy can have up to 20 seizures a day. He is currently down to two a month, thanks to positive adjustments to his medication.

The family's current car is at the end of it's lifespan, constantly needing repairs. Paul Bolger, the father, fears it will soon break down entirely.

His brave dad said "If this car stops going then Duy will not be able to attend family occasions, hospital appointments and surgeries or worst of all if he has a bad seizure we cant take him to hospital."

Duy suffers from a complex range of medical conditions including Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome, Global Developmental Delay, Microcephaly, Cerebral Palsy and Athetoid Quadriplegia.

The adapted car necessary for his needs can cost up to €40,000.

Kind supporters have given funds to the brave young boy, but they are still far off their target goal.

They have managed to raise €812. There are 60 days to go until the facebook fundraiser ends.

His dad continued: "On average over 30,000 people view his posts, to think if €1 for each view in the past we would be halfway towards our goal.

"Its hard to ask for the funding for the help but with the high costs of adapted vehicles we simply cant do it on our own."

The family hope to raise enough funds to improve Duy's quality of life, including a soft play area where he can take time to relax out of his wheelchair.
