Fundraiser for West Lothian victim left in critical condition after brutal attack

Friends of a man left fighting for his life after a brutal unprovoked attack have launched a fundraiser to help his family.

The 41-year-old victim was left in a critical condition after being attacked while walking to work in the early hours of Monday morning and is still being treated in hospital.

He had been walking along Brown Street in Armadale at around 5.30am on Monday when he was seriously assaulted by two men and was rushed to hospital.

His friends have since launched an online fundraiser for the victim and his family.

Neighbour Dawn Reid said she hopes money raised will help his family as will be in hospital “for a long time”.

Dawn wrote on the Gofundme page: “On behalf of myself and close neighbours, we are doing this go fund me page to help the family of this poor man who was assaulted today.

He will be in hospital a long time and his family will need to cope alone.

“This man is a hard worker and also his wife who both have young kids. They will struggle without him there and we would like to try and help them through this nightmare. Anything you can give will be much appreciated. We all need to stand together at such terrible times and try to help our neighbours.”

The page was launched on Monday and so far £177 has been raised towards the £500 target.

Police issued an appeal to the public to help them catch those responsible for the attack.

Yhe two suspects, described as wearing all black clothing and attacked the man and ran off in the direction of Harestanes Road following the incident.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Rachel Royan said: “We understand this to be an unprovoked attacked on a man who was simply walking to work.

“I am appealing for information from anyone who was in the area of Brown Street in the early part of this morning to come forward with any information they may have.

“If anyone has any CCTV or dash-cam footage of the area and the time of the incident, I would also ask them to make contact with police.

“Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101 and quote incident number 530 of 1 November.”
