Fundraiser for residents affected by Seven Sisters blast raises thousands within 24 hours

Money is being raised to help those affected by an explosion in Seven Sisters.

Emergency services were called to reports of an explosion at a property  in Neath Port Talbot at around at 2.05pm on Wednesday, June, 24.

Two boys aged two and five are in a "critical but stable" condition following the incident.

A 31-year-old woman is also in a "critical but stable" condition. All three patients remain in hospital.

The property where the explosion is believed to have come from has mostly been destroyed. Surrounding properties have also been damaged.

About 14 addresses along and near Church Road have been evacuated and residents are being supported.

Seven Sisters councillor Stephen Hunt started a GoFundMe page to help raise money to help those affected. You can access it here.

On the website, Mr Hunt wrote: "I was emotionally moved today by the community of Seven Sisters on how they dealt with something we never see in a village of valley like ours, there are so many heroes in my eyes, those who were on the scene straight away after this blast occurred.

"Then there were all those neighbours , and community residents coming from all over the Dulais Valley to see what they could do to offer their support and help."

He said he felt "physically sick" when he realised children were involved in the incident.

"I am very grateful to the [Neath Port Talbot council] and all the emergency services for their very quick response so as to deal with this incident.

"I am setting up this GoFundMe page for all those affected by this incident, I will at the appropriate time, as the Seven Sisters County Borough Councillor, liaise with everyone living there so that we can put all money raised to good use as they possibly need replaced goods, children’s toys, electrical goods, etc.

"We need support to rebuild whatever is necessary for all those directly affected by this terrible incident, families will need so much support and help to rebuild their lives after this traumatic event."

So far, the GoFundMe page has raised just under £2,000. There is a £10,000 target.
