Fundraiser for Ayrshire man left in coma after sick Ibiza attack almost at £20k

A fundraising campaign to help a Stewarton man who was attacked whilst in Ibiza has almost smashed £20,000.

Gavin Roberton has been left in a medically-induced coma after he was viciously assaulted during a holiday with his friends on the White Isle.

Gavin's mum Kirsty McMaster says only time will tell if her boy will pull through after he was randomly punched on the head whilst on stag do on the Spanish island on Tuesday night.

Kirsty, from Stewarton, said 26-year-old Gavin was at a cashline in San Antonio when a male approached him from behind and punched him in the side of the head before running off.

He sustained a fractured skull, as well as bleeding and bruising on his brain.

Gavin was rushed to a nearby hospital and has been in a coma since.

Kirsty, who has flown to Ibiza to be at her son's side with her sister Paula, said: "We've been told the first five days are critical and he's going to be up and down.

"Right now Gavin is stable, that's all they are telling me. We don't know if or when he will wake or what lasting damage his injuries will have on him.

"We're all heartbroken and are just hoping for the best possible outcome. At the moment we're taking every day as it comes."

So far, a fundraising drive set up by Kirsty's close friend Elaine Scott has generated £19,000.

It will go towards the cost of getting Gavin home, as he had no travel insurance.
