Family's lives ripped apart after devastating fire tears through their Hamilton home

Friends have rallied to help a Hamilton dad-of-three who lost everything in a horror blaze at his family home at the weekend.

We told you on Sunday how emergency services raced to the house in Wellcroft Terrace, Hillhouse, on Saturday evening following reports of a shed on fire.

However, upon arrival they quickly discovered a "well-developed" inferno within the house with smoke billowing from the loft.

A further three fire engines were then deployed to the scene to get the flames under control and police taped off the street.

Now, close pal of the family, Graham Welsh, has set up a JustGiving page in a bid to help his friend rebuild their lives.

Already over £1600 has been raised of a £2000 target.

Graham told Lanarkshire Live : "The accidental fire broke out as the family were eating their dinner.

"Thankfully no one was hurt, but unfortunately the blaze swept through the home. The family is obviously devastated and are now in the process of trying to gather the pieces to rebuild the family home.

"I have been friends with the dad all our lives and this is a family who truly are so generous - they are usually the first people to help out others by donating to food banks and toys for other kids in the community.

"Please, if you can, spare a little so we get this amazing family through this horrible ordeal and put a smile on those little faces again."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesman told us: "We received reports of a shed on fire at 17:50pm on Wellcroft Terrace, Hamilton.

"On arrival, this was upgraded to a well-developed house fire with smoke coming from the loft area.

"Four fire appliances were dispatched to the scene.

"No casualties have been reported at this time with all persons accounted for."

Anyone who would like to donate to the family can do so online.
