Funding has been secured to restore the footpath of Parc Cefn Onn in Lisvane.

The main footpath suffers from drainage problems and the poor condition meant it collected puddles and muddy patches in wet weather.

After restoration the new path will improve wheelchair access and the pathway to the picnic area – £135,000 worth of funding was received from the Landfill Community Fund. After a joint application from Cardiff Council and Friends of Parc Cefn Onn.

Nigel Howells, executive member for sport, leisure and culture, said:

"This is great news for Parc Cefn Onn and I am pleased that the Landfill Community Fund is able to assist in the enhancement of the park.

" I'm delighted that the new improved footpath will allow visitors better access throughout the park where they can enjoy the woodland experience for many years to come."

Since 2004 the park has also been plagued by Sudden Oak Death - a disease caused by a group of fungi called Phytophthora. This is being contained by a five year programme of clearance – which is due to be completed by 2014 but visitors are advised to keep dogs on leashes will the work continues to help prevent spreading.
