Funding boost to Lanarkshire hospice will allow it to continue family support

Bosses at Kilbryde Hospice say they are delighted to have received funding to continue their family support.

COVID-19 has had a significant impact on patients and families attending the hospice over the last 14 months.

Families have had to cope with restricted visiting to their loved ones at end of life, but also manage the measures put in place by the hospice to make their visit safe for both them and other patients and families.

Now funding from the National Lottery Community Fund (NLCF) will allow the charity's family support workers to work with patients and their families throughout their journey.

That means there will be support, guidance and care available from the moment patients are referred to the hospice allowing patients and families to feel comfortable in the hospice environment.

Hospice clinical services director, Margaret Mary Cowan told Lanarkshire Live : “We are delighted to have received a further one year of funding of what has become a vital role within the hospice throughout this pandemic.

“At the hospice, we welcome support from relatives and family members as we know that this is a vital support to our patients and helps their overall quality of care.

"We have also needed to make sure our patients, families and staff are as safe as possible during the COVID-19 pandemic and our Family Support Worker has played a pivotal role in making this happen.”

Kate Still of the NLCF said: “In these unprecedented times, it’s heartening to see the way Scottish communities are coming together to provide each other with support.

“I would like to congratulate Kilbryde Hospice on their award which is testament to the incredible efforts of their staff and volunteers.

“National Lottery players can be proud to know that the money they raise is making such a difference.”
