A Lanarkshire charity is among dozens across Scotland to benefit after being nominated to receive funding from insurer NFU Mutual.
Covey Befriending & Mentoring is one of the recipients of a bumper cheque, with the company distributing a total of £206,000 to 32 charities across the country.
The good cause, which will mark its 30th anniversary next year, was originally founded in Hamilton and Blantyre and now provides befriending support in communities across South Lanarkshire.
It has also expanded into the neighbouring north authority in the past decade, and adapted to continue providing support virtually throughout the COVID pandemic.
Staff at NFU were invited to nominate local charities to receive support from its latest fund – part of a £2m “agency giving” programme for customers and communities affected by coronavirus.
Other Scottish recipients included the Royal British Legion, Scottish Association for Mental Health and Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance.
NFU regional manager Mark McBrearty said: “The pandemic has had a huge impact on everybody, including our customers and their communities; we’re proud that our agents have nominated a wide range of local causes to benefit from this national fund.”
