Fund set up in honour of former Nottingham Forest youngster Derrick Otim - and £15,000 is already raised

A fund has been set up to support the family of former Nottingham Forest youngster Derrick Otim, who died last week.

The ex-Nigel Doughty Academy player passed away in America, at the age of 24, on Friday.

And a GoFundMe page has been established in his honour, with donations pouring in, as more than £15,000 has already been raised.

A note says: “In loving memory of our brother and friend, Derrick "Del" Otim, we created this GoFundMe to support his lovely mother, Joy, in his funeral and other expenses.

“We would genuinely appreciate anything anyone is able to donate.

“Please continually pray for his soul and the strength of his mother and siblings as they carry on the beautiful legacy that Del has left for all of us to follow.”

Former Forest players Dimi Evtimov and Jorge Grant have both contributed.

Grant posted a link on Twitter, saying: “Any donation would be grateful guys.”

Evtimov said: “In Celebration of Derrick Otim! Any donation will be appreciated!”

Reds academy coach Andy Reid said: “Del was a diamond, his smile made everyone else smile, if you can, please help guys.”

Forest paid tribute to Otim with a minute’s applause before their match against Fulham on Tuesday night.

Otim had studied and graduated at Xavier University, in Cincinnati, having moved to America after he left the City Ground in 2015.

His brother Elvis Otim, who was also at Forest, has described him as an “inspiration”.
