Fund raising plea for Everton hero after son diagnosed with rare leukemia

A fundraising page with a target of $100,000 has been set up for Everton hero Gary Stevens and his family.

Gary's son, Jack, was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia last month and has already undergone a round of chemotherapy.

Gary and his wife Louise, both health professionals in Perth, Australia, have seen their income hit in recent weeks and a gofundme page has been set up in their name.

Jack, who has two brothers, has been diagnosed with JMML and with Louise unable to work at the moment, and Blues' great Gary having to cut down his hours because of all the time spent at hospital, they need money for living costs.

The page was set up by Louise's sister, Julie, and she wrote: "Jack's treatments are going to be a long haul. He has JMML which is a very rare Leukemia. They have done the first course of chemo and are looking for a match to do a stem cell transplant.

"At this point not a lot is clear regarding his treatment, the time it will take or the locations it will happen.

"We ask you to pray for the family and we ask you to spread the info far and wide so we can help them cope. Please help alleviate the financial stresses so they don't have to have that on top the already stressful and desperate situation.

"You can contact me (Julie, Louise's sister) with any questions or information. My email address is juliejgeorge@yahoo.com.

"Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love and support."

Former Everton striker Gary Lineker has generously donated £1,000 to the fund raiser.
