Fund launched in memory of tragic teen footballer killed in horror gap year crash

The former coach of a teen footballer killed in a horror crash has launched a fundraising appeal in his memory.

Tributes paid to 'one in a million' Scots teen who died on gap year to Indonesia, 18, died on March 23. It is believed he was knocked down by a minibus in Laos in Asia during a gap year trip.

The keen footballer, who played for North Merchiston FC as a ­youngster, was from Edinburgh.

His ex-coach at the club, Alex Stylianou, told how he was “heartbroken and absolutely devastated” by the tragedy.

He set up a Facebook page to collect funds in Andy’s name as a tribute.

Last night, the appeal had raised £3430 towards its £4000 target. Alex also hopes to organise a ­memorial game in the city for the teen’s friends and teammates.

In the social media appeal, Alex wrote: “While nothing can really be done to restore a human life, I thought why not launch a fundraising campaign in memory of Andy and help, as much as I possibly can, his family and loved ones in this ­difficult time?”
