Function’s favourite tracks

Function

The track I’ll be opening my next DJ set with
Abstract Division: Metropolis (Function Remix)

A remix I just did for two friends which comes out this month on their label, Dynamic Reflection; I’ve been starting a lot of sets with it recently. Deep, dreamy Detroit-inspired techno with a proper Berghain kick that keeps it tough.

The track I always play to rescue a dancefloor
Random XS: Give Your Body

Classic, Djax-Up-Beats [label] hypnotic acid track. Never fails to cast a spell on the crowd.

The track that currently gets the most rewinds
CJ Bolland: Horsepower

I used this on my Berghain mix because of this very reason. The perfect link between the past, the present and the future.

The track I wish I’d signed to my label
Kraftwerk: Nummern

My favourite track of all time. The track I’ve listened to more than any other piece of music and, to this day, I still get excited every time I hear or play it.

The ideal festival track
CJ Bolland: Camargue

Uplifting, energetic, very positive classic techno from one of my favourite old-school producers.

The track I’d play at my auntie’s wedding
Bobby O: She Has A Way

This is the perfect song to play at a wedding because it’s one of those classics everyone knows. So when the chorus hits you can cut the volume and everyone will sing along: “She has a way… of getting what she wants!” It just never gets old. They don’t call it high energy for nothing!

The track I’d play at sunset in Ibiza
Choice: Acid Eiffel

Two summers ago, I did exactly this. I was invited to play a private party at a beautiful villa on the island, specifically at sunset. They had a stunning view and as the sun was going down I played nearly all 13-and-a-half minutes. Ibiza is not 100% my thing but this moment was undeniable.

The best track by my favourite new artist
Post Scriptum: Human Timescales

Post Scriptum is a new artist we’ve been developing on my label Infrastructure. Mind-blowing, classic Mills-inspired bleep techno from the future. As proper as it gets!

The track I’d play at my funeral
Brian Eno: An Ending (Ascent)

Simply sounds like you’ve died and gone to heaven.

Function plays Fabric, EC1, Sat 20 June. Berghain 07 mix is out now
