Fun festival in Lochwinnoch will have everyone feeling good

A feelgood festival featuring a pizza party, silent disco, massage sessions, crafts and wellness therapies and much more is taking place in Lochwinnoch next month.

Open to everyone in the village and surrounding areas, Lochwinnoch Feel Good Festival has been organised by LEAP, Lochwinnoch Energy Action Plan.

It starts on Monday, September 12 and runs until Sunday, September 18 with a host of events for people of all ages and interests.

Organiser Tori Bell, LEAP project leader, said: “This is the second year we’ve had this event. Our first was last July at the end of one of the lockdowns and it was really successful, then we had events earlier this year.

“Because we’re not dealing with such strict covid restrictions now, we want to open it up.

“We have over 50 different events and activities from a holistic, wellbeing festival to creative and nature-focused activities. We’re having a kids zone in the park with a bouncy castle, pony rides and a pizza party, tie-dye printing and even sock wrestling!

“There’s also going to be a Wellbeing Fayre in the McKillop Institute which will feature Thai and Indian massage, yoga sessions, and lots more.

“We’ve tried to think about different groups of people and ages and make it accessible for everyone.

“Through funding, which has mostly come from Engage Renfrewshire’s Community Mental Health fund, we’ve been able to subsidise a lot of the events or make them free.”

Tori said boosting mental health has always been important to the festival but that its come into sharp focus now with many people facing a cost of living crisis and coming out of the covid pandemic.

“A festival like this has never been more important,” she said. “Following on from covid and the difficulties everybody had, the cost of living crisis and the impact that’s having. It’s never been more important to put a focus on mental health and to open up ways in which people can seek to improve it.

“There’s something uplifting about doing a silent disco with your friends or going on a photo walk together or whatever it is you fancy.”

The weekend of September 11 and 12 will feature live music in the village as part of the Spree for All festival and Tori hopes the good vibes continue into the Feel Good Festival.

“There are so many exciting things happening on the programme,” she said. “I’ve spoke to so many people who’ve said they’re having to decide between things that are happening.

“We would urge people to book events, even if they are free, as numbers may be limited.”
