The Australia Day event on Sunday will double as a bushfire relief concert and those attending are asked to donate to support the recovery efforts.
Earlier this month, the ACT government announced Canberra's annual Australia Day fireworks show would be cancelled due to the bushfire crisis. It has been replaced by a daytime concert at Stage 88.
The national flag raising event and citizenship ceremonies for 25 new Australians will take place at Rond Terrace, starting at 9am. From 10am to 1pm, national and local acts will take to the stage at Commonwealth Park for a free concert. Artists Japanese Wallpaper and Nicole Millar will be supported by Sistas in Song featuring local singer Monica Moore.
Free amusement rides and roving entertainers will keep the children entertained, as will the Navy and Volleyball ACT. ACT Minister for Cultural Events Gordon Ramsay said three charities had been chosen to receive the money raised - St Vincent de Paul, Wildlife Rescue Services known as WIRES, and Lifeline.
"All of these charities have been partnering with the ACT government to support the bushfire relief centre in Dickson and each charity supports the immediate Canberra region," Mr Ramsay said.
"This will be a fantastic day where Canberrans can come together and acknowledge the deep history of Australia and provide relief for communities impacted by the bushfires."
A free shuttle will run every 10-15 minutes from the city interchange.
