Fuming Scots dad threw plank of wood at woman’s car in row over his children

A raging Paisley dad grabbed a plank of wood and hurled it at a woman’s new car amid claims she made snide remarks about his kids.

Robert Morrison, 43, flipped out following a verbal rammy that took place at Dalskeith Road in the town’s Ferguslie Park area on July 18.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard Morrison grabbed the timber and threw it at the woman’s red Toyota C-HR, which was parked outside her home, damaging the brand new motor.

Procurator fiscal depute Ian Mathieson told the court that his temper flared following an argument that took place around 2.30pm.

He said: “The witness was within her garden at her home address when an argument with the accused ensued.

“He was shouting aggressively and making comments about the complainer.

“This was overheard by another witness who was also in her garden.

“The complainer left her garden and attended the home address of the witness who had heard the accused shouting.

“At that point, the accused came into the garden and picked up a plank of wood and threw it at the red Toyota vehicle, causing damage to it.”

The shocked woman reported the attack on her motor to police, who traced Morrison and arrested him.

Yesterday, he appeared in the dock before Sheriff Mark Thorley and pleaded guilty throwing the plank of wood at the vehicle and damaging it.

Defence agent Amy Spencer said her client, of Blythswood Drive in the town, was admitting responsibility for the rampage, but she added that he had been provoked by the complainer.

She said: “On July 18, an argument erupted. The complainer had made some disparaging comments about Mr Morrison’s children and made some comments about his previous drug use.

“This struck a nerve with him and he reacted in the manner described.”

Ms Spencer added her client has stayed out of trouble for the last ten years, and visited the address in Ferguslie Park regularly to see his children.

She stressed that her client would be willing to pay a fine after pleading guilty to the offence.

Sheriff Thorley said he was deferring sentencing for four weeks to call for an estimate of how much damage to the Toyota was caused.

Morrison was released on bail and will appear back at court on September 16, when he will discover his fate.
