Fuming Jurgen Klopp slates refereeing performance over West Ham goal and lack of red card for Aaron Cresswell

Jurgen Klopp was left seething with the officiating in Liverpool’s defeat to West Ham on Sunday.

The Hammers opened the scoring when Alisson Becker failed to clear Pablo Fornals’ early corner, with the goal given after a VAR check for a potential foul by Angelo Ogbonna. Aaron Cresswell then escaped a red card for a high tackle on Jordan Henderson.

“In the first-half we had complete control of game, scored a wonderful equaliser and were in charge of the game,” stated Klopp.

“In the second-half they scored from a counter and a set-piece. But also that happened because we should have controlled the game still in the second half. It looked like we lost patience.

“So we lost that game. But I think it's a clear foul on Alisson, how can it not be? When you see the dynamic of the situation how can that not be a foul?

“Then I saw only the situation with Aaron and Hendo now, and the way I see it is it's a clear red card. There is no discussion. You cannot go like this into a challenge.”

Klopp took umbrage with a BBC reporter who questioned the German on the incidents, after late goals from Fornals and Kurt Zouma sealed third place for West Ham.

“It's really interesting you ask that,” Klopp queried. “I'm not sure I want to answer the question if you don't know the situation I'm talking about. Do you not think [Alisson was impeded for the first goal]? Is your job not to have an opinion? Okay that's nice."

After being asked about Cresswell’s challenge, he added: “My god. I'm not your puppy. Hopefully, you have an opinion yourself. All good.”
