Fulmer, recent call-ups help Tigers top Twins, 13-4

MINNEAPOLIS _ The Tigers pounded out 13 runs on 13 hits and improved to 10-8 with a 13-4 win over the Twins Sunday at Target Field. It was the first time this season the Tigers have won by more than three runs.

The Tigers took a 2-1 lead on a two-run home run by Alex Avila in the second inning.

Victor Martinez finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and one run scored. He drove in the first of five runs in the Tigers' third with a one-out single. Martinez added an RBI double _ his first extra-base hit of the season _ as part of a three-run sixth.

Jim Adduci and John Hicks, the Tigers' newest arrivals from Triple-A Toledo, both had run-scoring hits in the third to help the Tigers take a 7-1 lead.

Adduci, who arrived about an hour before the game from Lehigh Valley, Pa., after being called up from Triple-A Toledo, hit a two-out, two-run double in the third. Hicks, called up before Saturday's 5-4 win, followed with a two-run single.

Hicks went 3-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs Sunday and is 5-for-10 in two games since replacing the injured Miguel Cabrera at first base. Hicks hit a three-run home run in the ninth, his first career home run.

Adduci went 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored. He was called up after JaCoby Jones went on the 10-day DL with a left lip laceration. Jones was hit in the face by an 89-mph fastball in Saturday's 5-4 win. It was Adduci's first appearance in the big leagues since 2014.

The Tigers added three more runs in the sixth to take a 10-2 lead. A passed ball on a third strike to Nick Castellanos allowed Hicks to score. Then a throwing error on the same play sent home Andrew Romine. Martinez's RBI double brought home Castellanos and give the Tigers a 10-2 lead. It was the first extra-base hit for Martinez in 17 games.

Right-handed pitcher Michael Fulmer allowed two runs on four hits over seven innings. He walked one and struck out seven.

He allowed an RBI single to Miguel Sano in the first inning and a solo home run to Eddie Rosario in the fifth.

Anibal Sanchez gave up a two-run home run to Max Kepler in the eighth. Sanchez has allowed a team-high five home runs in 102/3 innings this season. Justin Wilson was brought in to get the final out of the eighth with two on.

Twins right-hander Kyle Gibson allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits over 22/3 innings. He walked two and struck out three.

Joe Jimenez pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning, including a strikeout, to end the game.
