Full transcript: Chris Sutton and Micah Richards defend Steve Bruce's start at Newcastle United

Steve Bruce's start at Newcastle United is not going exactly to plan - two games, and two defeats.

Having come in and replaced Rafa Benitez , a man adored by United fans, his job was always going to come with added pressure.

However, a 3-1 thrashing off newly-promoted Norwich City on Saturday, has heightened criticism of Bruce.

United were lacking any sort of organisation and were too easily cut up by the Canaries.

Fans have questioned Bruce's tactics, and voiced their concerns to just how the team can perform so badly.

BBC pundits Chris Sutton, Micah Richards, and commentator Arlo White have discussed the current situation at Newcastle United, and the feeling towards Steve Bruce .

Here's the full transcript.

Mark Chapman : Do you worry for Steve Bruce?

Chris Sutton : What? Do I worry for his future after two games? That's absolutely ridiculous.

It's ridiculous, I really feel for Steve Bruce. When you look at last season, I think they only had three points out of the first 10 games under Rafa Benitez.

I think Newcastle fans, and they've been through such a tough time but there is a section of them who need to get a grip of themselves and start backing their manager, and not have this negativity.

There was talk about Steve Bruce being 11th choice, I don't know if that was the case or not but what about giving a manager a chance - how can we honestly judge Steve Bruce fairly after two games? It's utterly ridiculous

MC: We're not necessarily judging him on two games but the atmosphere around the place... they had the dreadful start last season but Rafa Benitez had the credit in the bank with the fans.

Steve Bruce, at this stage, doesn't.

The discontent when he was appointed, [the bad start] increases the pressure on him, then whatever is happening after two games in, if the atmosphere is different around the place, it increases the negativity.

Micah Richards: Yeah, the pressure of taking the job in the first place.

But me as I know Steve Bruce, he's thick skinned and will get the best out of the players there.

I've worked under him, he's a great manager, but not just a great manager but a great person as well, he always goes over and beyond and puts the players first.

Yes, maybe it's difficult when you've been the Sunderland manager but give him time.

Lets have this conversation - in 10, 15 games.

He had a tough game in Arsenal, and people were disappointed going to Norwich and conceding three goals but the way Steve Bruce sets up his teams, he would have thought that they would have been a bit more defensively sound.

I've done one of his pre-seasons and trust me, it's not nice.

CS : What benefit does it serve though, these fans being negative, and bringing negativity into the stadium, and booing the manager.

I do not get this after two games.

Arlo White : The game against Liverpool, it was a night game, they had been partying on Tyneside all day, it was a beautiful day, and there were reports that Rafa Benitez was very close to signing a new contract.

It was as positive as I've experienced St James' Park in ages, and all of a sudden Rafa leaves, Perez is sold out of the blue, and they don't sign Rondon.

CS : But they've broken their transfer record.

AS : Yes they have, they've signed Joelinton for £40m, apparently he's suffering with a bit of a hip injury at the moment, but Bruce has been there 33 [34 now] days.

Five new signings he's got to integrate into the side.

I understand the fans' negativity because once again, they thought they were going to make some progress; Rafa was going to have some money to spend and it was all going to look great but they've had the rug pulled from under them again.

CS: But Rafa decided to go.

AW : That is very true, and I know there are contradicting stories from Mike Ashley and Rafa Benitez but had he been offered what he wanted, he would have stayed, there is no absolutely no question about it.

He enjoyed life on Tyneside, he was close to his family, and was adored there.

To do what he did with the resources there was remarkable.

They didn't win a game until November 3rd last year, and still finished 13th.

But what does worry me, Paul Dummett said after the game that even the warm up wasn't right - if that's the second game of the season, and he's one of the veterans, and he's looking around..

CS : What about a little bit of self-responsibility? Why come out publicly and say that? I think that's a disgrace, I really, really do.

If the fans want to boo the owner, that's fine.

But any manager, you can't judge a manager on two games.

MC : But if that's what Paul Dummett is saying, and the Arsenal goal came because there was a substitution made and there was a miscommunication about where someone was playing and he wasn't in the right position - Newcastle fans will look at that and what Paul Dummett said and think there are things that aren't right.

MR : I think that's down to being a professional.

You can't really put everything on the manager.

When you go out as a footballer, when you cross that white line, you've got to have some sort of responsibility on yourself.

You can't blame a manager for that.

The manager has looked at his squad , thought that was the best possible team for that game, and the players have to take some responsibility.

I do feel for the fans, losing Rondon who was unbelievable last season, and then Perez - your top player, you will be frustrated, but this isn't Bruce's problem.

Bruce is just there to pick up the pieces.

CS : Steve Bruce loves the club, that's why he took the job, and it was extremely courageous for him to do that, and I just don't get the fans.

It's made me angry this Paul Dummett comment - I mean come on.

Warm yourself up.
