Full transcript as Gary Neville urges Man Utd to go all out for Harry Kane transfer

Gary Neville has urged Manchester United to make a transfer that would "turbo boost" their Premier League title chances.

The former Manchester United captain says the Red Devils should sign Harry Kane, who wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Kane has been heavily linked with a move to rivals Manchester City but his £160million price tag has proved a stumbling block for the Citizens.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to be in the market for a striker in the next 12 months due to Anthony Martial's drop-off in form and Edinson Cavani's contract expiring at the end of the season.

Neville predicted the duo to depart as he discussed United's title credentials.

"I’m struggling to understand why United aren’t going that extra step in this transfer window. [Jadon] Sancho was £70m but that was last year’s money," he stated on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports alongside Jamie Carragher.

"In regards to United, they’ve always gone after the best English or British player in the Premier League, historically.

"Why is Martial, [Daniel] James, [Jesse] Lingard, you’re talking about offloading wages there and potentially getting a transfer fee in, why are they not going in for Harry Kane this week?

Neville admitted his gut feeling that the signings of Sancho and Raphael Varane would not be enough to surpass the 90-point mark, something needed in recent title races, but that Kane would.

"My gut feeling is no, they won't have the same impact as [Virgil] Van Dijk and Alisson to get them up to that 95 point mark that we'll need to win the league," said the ex-Red Devils skipper.

"Chelsea, we've seen what they're doing with [Romelu] Lukaku, Van Dijk has come in for Liverpool, City have got [Jack] Grealish and they're in for Kane.

"If City get Kane I think there's a massive problem for Manchester United.

"I think if Kane went to United, they could get up to 90-95 points," Neville added.

"They still need to replace Cavani and Martial next summer. Martial isn’t going to do it, Cavani only has one-year left.

"They’re going to have to buy a centre-forward at some point, why not get the man now and give Ole the impetus he needs to get to that points total?

"I don’t think he can with just Sancho and Varane."

Martial was criticised for his largely anonymous performance at Southampton on Sunday, starting up front as Mason Greenwood was pushed out wide.

Edinson Cavani is back in training but is not yet match fit, according to Solskjaer, needing more time to train with the team.

Neville continued: "Man Utd have spent fortunes on the two previous managers who were world class, renowned names and it didn’t work.

"The club have adopted a different policy, they’re going down a different route. Man Utd will lose Martial and Cavani in the next 12 months - they’ll only have Mason Greenwood as a centre forward. Rashford’s left.

"So they do need a centre forward in the next 12 months.

"The guy [Kane] is available now if you pay £150million - they've got Martial, James, Mata, Lingard - we could do without them at the club I think.

"I personally think Kane coming in would be a differentiator."

The Red Devils travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Bank Holiday Sunday, where Varane could make his debut and Sancho earn his first start.
