Full Tottenham squad revealed for Chelsea clash as Jose Mourinho makes surprise decision

Tottenham will be looking to shrug off the disappointment of their 1-1 draw with Newcastle on Sunday as they host Chelsea in the Carabao Cup fourth round tie.

Spurs have endured a mixed start to the Premier League season, following up their opening weekend defeat to Everton with victory over Southampton before the controversial events against Steve Bruce's side.

Next up, Jose Mourinho's side welcome Chelsea to north London for a place in the next round of the League Cup.

Frank Lampard's side tasted success on their last visit to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in December, winning 2-0 in a bad tempered affair which saw Son Heung-min sent off - and the South Korean will be unavailable for the game after suffering a hamstring injury at the weekend.

Speaking ahead of the game, Spurs boss Mourinho admitted that the scheduling meant he would have to prioritise Thursday night's clash against Maccabi Haifa in the Europa League play-off.

"What would you do in my position?" he said. "I would like to fight for the Carabao but I don't think I can.

"We have a game on Thursday that gives us not as much money as the Champions League but the group phase of the Europa League gives us a certain amount that for a club like us is very important.

"It's a competition with a possible group phase that gives us a good chance to go through to the next knockout stage so this game on Thursday is very important for us."

Elsewhere, The Telegraph have reported that Dele Alli is set to be left out of the squad for tonight's game by Mourinho.

Alli has been linked with a move away from Spurs ahead of Monday's transfer window deadline having scarcely featured so far this season.

He started the first game of the Premier League season against Everton but was withdrawn at half-time, and his only other appearance was as a substitute against Shkendija in the Europa League.

Alli had been due to play against Leyton Orient in the third round of the Carabao Cup last week before the tie was cancelled amid a Covid-19 outbreak at Brisbane Road.

It was expected that the England international would receive some playing time against Chelsea, but that now does not appear to be the case as the mystery surrounding his future intensifies.
