YOKOHAMA -- A full-scale model of a robot from the Japanese anime series "Mobile Suit Gundam" was unveiled to the media at Yamashita Pier in Yokohama for the Gundam Factory Yokohama (GFY) event on Monday, ahead of its official start on Dec. 19.
The Moving Gundam was created based on the proportions in the show and looks as if it jumped straight out of the anime.
To commemorate the 40th anniversary of when the anime first aired, GFY is displaying the Gundam, which is 18-meters tall and weighs 25 tons, in a 9,000-square-meter space at the pier. The Gundam is able to move its head, arms, legs, fingers and other parts of its body.
By climbing up the Gundam-Dock Tower, visitors can get an up-close look at the Gundam and see the intricate details of the robot.
The Gundam Lab has an exhibit where visitors can see what it is like to climb into the cockpit of a Gundam, a cafe and an official Gundam store.
Tickets are available on its official website. Admission is 1,650 yen for adults, 1,100 yen for children between the ages of 7 and 12, and free for up to three children under the age of 6 with an adult. Admission costs an additional 3,300 yen for visitors aged 7 and older to go up the Gundam-Dock Tower.
