Detectives investigating a shooting in Nottingham have released more details after two men were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds to their legs.
Armed police were deployed to Hucknall Road in the Top Valley area just before midnight on Tuesday June 16 to secure the area as Nottinghamshire Police launched an investigation into the incident.
Police cordons remain in place in several locations, including the footpath of Moor Bridge at its junction with Hucknall Lane in Bulwell, as well as Hucknall Road at its junction with Bestwood Road and Hucknall Lane.
No arrests have been made and the force is asking for the public to help.
The victims, a man in his twenties and another in his 30s, are in hospital being treated for single gunshot wounds to their legs. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, the force said.
Providing more details about the shooting, Detective Inspector Ruby Burrow, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We are at a very early stage in our investigation and we are working hard to understand the circumstances around this serious incident.
“We believe that the incident took place in Hucknall Road just before midnight and are exploring the idea that it may have taken place inside a car.
"However, we are calling for the public to help us piece together what happened.
“This is being investigated as a targeted attack and those involved are believed to be known to one another.
"I want to reassure the public that we are doing everything in our power to find those responsible."
Residents have been left fearful following the "terrible" shooting.
A forensics team was in the area throughout Wednesday morning investigating a trail of blood linked to the shooting as police closed Moor Bridge at the junction with Hucknall Lane.
Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Christine Busuttil added: “I understand the level of concern incidents of this nature cause and patrols will be increased in the area over the coming days in order to provide reassurance to the public.
“Firearms offences are totally unacceptable and have no place in our community.
“If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to speak with one of our officers in the area or give Nottinghamshire Police a call on 101. We are committed to protecting the safety of our communities and will be doing everything we can to make sure the area is secured and safe for the public.
“We will aim to keep disruption to a minimum while we detectives carry out their investigation.”
