Both Newcastle and Durham are included in a top pizza chain's new list of branch locations which will be reopening to dine-in customers in July.
Pizza Express has announced that Thursday, July 9 is to be the opening date for 46 restaurants which will be serving up meals again for the first time in months.
And its pizzerias in intu Eldon Square, Newcastle, and Saddler Street, Durham, are included among them.
The next nearest for North East fans after that will be its branch in Carlisle.
During lockdown, Pizza Express has been running trials of delivery and click and collect services at a pick of locations in the south and on July 2 it also will be extending these services to more restaurants around London.
Its latest stages of phased reopenings are being developed in line with the new Government advice and will adopt similar safety measures to those tried out during the trials, such as extra cleaning, social distancing and menu reviews.
Additional measures will include introducing regular health checks for staff, rigorous hygiene procedures, hand sanitiser stations, digital menus and online payments.
Zoe Bowley, managing director of Pizza Express, said its teams and customers are "top priority" and following Government advice and its prior trials, the company is "delighted" to announce its first 46 pizzeria reopenings.
She added: “The extensive safety measures we have in place across all reopened pizzerias will allow us to provide the full Pizza Express experience that our customers have come to love, in a safe and responsible way, as we work to gradually bring back our freshly hand-made pizza to even more locations in the near future."
