Full list of Met Eireann's multiple warnings as 'storm brewing' off the coast of Ireland

A status yellow wind warning is in effect from Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Munster from 9pm tonight until 6am Tuesday on Tuesday

Met Eireann warns that southerly winds will reach average wind speeds of 50 to 65km/h, with gusts of 90 to 110km/h, possibly higher on exposed coasts.

There is also a warning of coastal flooding where winds are onshore.

A gale warning was also issued this morning by Met Eireann for southerly winds increasing to a gale force 8 or strong gale force 9 today on Irish coastal waters from Carnsore Point to Slyne Head to Bloody Foreland.

This gale force warning is extended to all Irish coastal waters and the Irish Sea tonight.

Another status yellow warning - for rain this time - is in effect from midnight tonight for 24 hours. This will be in place for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Munster and Connacht.

Carlow Weather’s Alan O’Reilly said, “something is brewing out in the Atlantic and while the center of the storm will stay out to the west it will impact us. It will bring strong winds and heavy rain with up to 100mm possible in parts of the Southwest over the next 36 hours,” on Twitter this morning.

The western coast of Connacht and Munster will be hit with isolated showers towards the evening.

“Today will be dry and bright for much of the country with long spells of sunshine. Isolated showers will continue in Munster and Connacht. Highs of 9 to 11 degrees, in moderate southerly winds increasing this evening. Rain will arrive in the west after dark,” according to Met Eireann.

There is a risk of localised flooding tonight, especially in the southwest regions, as showers will increase into a very wet and windy night, with persistent rain expected to fall through the west into the southwest.

Temperatures are forecast to be between 5 and 8 degrees today, becoming milder overnight.

The strong gale force winds will cause tomorrow to remain wet and windy, as isolated showers of heavy rain will spread north across the country.

Heading into midweek, gusty winds and isolated showers will continue to remain unsettled, but the mainly dry conditions with sunny spells are expected by the week’s end.
