Which hospitals are affected by the nurses strike TODAY - full list with picket lines map

The first ever nationwide strike by nurses over pay is kicking off today.

Tens of thousands of nursing staff are walking out after being offered a 4.75% pay rise - well below inflation.

The Royal College of Nursing blasted the Tory Health Secretary's “belligerence” after he refused to reopen pay talks.

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has refused to rule out banning nurses from going on strike altogether.

Rishi Sunak told MPs on Wednesday that nurses had received a 3% pay rise last year “when everyone else in the public sector had a public sector pay freeze”.

And he said he had given a £1,000 training budget for nurses and midwives, plus a £5,000 grant for every student - years after bursaries were axed.

But Keir Starmer said: “Nurses going on strike is a badge of shame for this Government.

“Instead of showing leadership, the Prime Minister is playing games with people’s health.

“And there is a human cost: Alex from Chester has been waiting for a gallbladder operation for nearly six months. He is in so much pain that he has been off school since then. His operation has already been cancelled twice.”

Because each NHS Trust is an individual workplace, strikes had to be voted for hospital-by-hospital.

That means not every hospital in England and Wales has nurses on strike on December 15. Some are only on strike on December 20. Others are striking on both dates.

So volunteers at the website strikemap.co.uk have pulled together a complete list of all the workplaces that are going on strike.
