Full list of flood alerts in force across Greater Manchester and Cheshire as Storm Christoph hits

A number of flood alerts have been issued across Greater Manchester and Cheshire as Storm Christoph brings torrential downpours to the region.

The Met Office has issued an amber 'danger to life' weather warning for heavy rain and flooding for large parts of northern England.

And the Environment Agency has also issued a number of flood alerts for parts of our region, meaning that flooding is possible in those areas and that residents should be prepared.

Upper River Irwell catchment with Oldham, Bolton, Rochdale, Haslingden, Ramsbottom and Rawtenstall

River levels are rising at the Littleborough river gauge as a result of persistent rainfall. Consequently, we believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads around the Rivers Beal, Roch and Croal, Limy Water and their tributaries. Levels are forecast to pass through the flood alert threshold around 14:30 this afternoon and peaking this evening around 19:00 (19/01/2021). Further rainfall is forecast over the next few days due to Storm Christoph. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels and will issue flood warnings if necessary. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses, be aware of your surroundings, and keep up to date with the current situation.

Lower River Irwell catchment including areas in Greater Manchester

A prolonged period of heavy rain from the evening of Monday 18th to Wednesday 20th January will cause river levels to rise at the Manchester Racecourse river gauge and consequently flooding of property or roads and farmland is possible. We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads around the Rivers Irk and Medlock, Wince and Worsley Brooks and their tributaries. Further rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours. We expect river levels to remain high over the next couple of days and due to peak in the early hours of Wednesday 20th January. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels and will issue flood warnings if necessary. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses, be aware of your surroundings, and keep up to date with the current situation.

Middle River Mersey catchment including areas near Bramhall, Stockport, Sale, Altrincham and Urmston

A prolonged period of heavy rain from the evening of Monday 18th to Wednesday 20th January will cause river levels to rise at the Brinksway river gauge and consequently flooding of property or roads and farmland is possible. We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads around Micker, Cringle, Sinderland and Poynton Brooks and their tributaries. Further rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours. We expect river levels to remain high over the next couple of days and due to peak in the early hours of Wednesday 20th January. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels and will issue flood warnings if necessary. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses, be aware of your surroundings, and keep up to date with the current situation.

River Mersey Uplands catchment including Hyde, Ashton-under-Lyne, Denton, Stalybridge and Glossop

A prolonged period of heavy rain from the evening of Monday 18th to Wednesday 20th January will cause river levels to rise at the Woolley Bridge Gates river gauge and consequently flooding of property or roads and farmland is possible. We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads around Micker, Cringle, Sinderland and Poynton Brooks and their tributaries. Further rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours. We expect river levels to remain high over the next couple of days and due to peak in the early hours of Wednesday 20th January. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels and will issue flood warnings if necessary. River Bollin catchment, including Knutsford, Wilmslow, Macclesfield and Bollington

A prolonged period of heavy rain from the evening of Monday 18th to Wednesday 20th January will cause river levels to rise at the Bollington Mill river gauge and consequently flooding of property or roads and farmland is possible. We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads around the Rivers Bollin, Dean and Pedley, Birkin and Mobberley Brooks and their tributaries. Further rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours. We expect river levels to remain high over the next couple of days and due to peak in the early hours of Wednesday 20th January. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels and will issue flood warnings if necessary. River Dane catchment including Kidsgrove, Sandbach, Congleton, Middlewich and Northeast Crewe

A prolonged period of heavy rain from the evening of Monday 18th to Wednesday 20th January will cause river levels to rise at the Congleton Park river gauge and consequently flooding of property or roads and farmland is possible. We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads around the River Wheelock, Arclid, Smoker and Fowle Brooks and their tributaries. Further rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours. We expect river levels to remain high over the next couple of days and due to peak in the early hours of Wednesday 20th January. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels and will issue flood warnings if necessary. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses, be aware of your surroundings, and keep up to date with the current situation.

Weaver catchment including Nantwich, Frodsham, Crewe, Winsford and Northwich

A prolonged period of heavy rain from the evening of Monday 18th to Wednesday 20th January will cause river levels to rise at the Hayhurst Bridge and Shrewbridge river gauges and consequently flooding of property or roads and farmland is possible. We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads around the Rivers Weaver, Ducklow, Wheelock and their tributaries. Further rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours. We expect river levels to remain high over the next couple of days and due to peak in the early hours of Wednesday 20th January. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels and will issue flood warnings if necessary.
