Full list of countries ready to welcome Irish tourists back when international travel reopens on July 19

International travel will reopen for Irish tourists again on July 19.

Holidaymakers will be finally free to jet off across Europe after months of lockdown and a strict ban on non-essential travel.

The EU Digital Covid Certificate allows safe movement of EU citizens during the easing of restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Some countries have even implemented it already and the digital Covid passport will be available to all EU Member States from July 1. Ireland may implement the digital certificate, but won’t allow non-essential international travel until July 19.

Destination countries look for a QR code found in travellers’ Digital Covid Certificate to see whether they have been vaccinated against the disease, received a negative test or have recovered from Covid in the last six months.

What countries aren’t ready?

Malta and Hungary are still in the test phase of connecting to the EU Digital Covid Certificate.

From June 1 - June 30, the EU is in its “warm-up phase.” Member States can launch the certificate whenever they feel is best for their country and have the necessary legal base in place.

From July 1, the EU Digital COVID Certificate becomes available throughout the EU. Until August 12, Member States will be phasing in the digital cert.

You can see more information on the certificate and all the details from the European Commission here.
