A number of roadworks will be taking place across the North East this week - here is the full list.
According to information from traffic experts, some roads and streets are expected to be closed or may have temporary measures in place. The information below will help drivers to factor in any road closures and change their travel arrangements if necessary.
Diversion routes may also be in place in some areas, so people are urged to check if any of the works are likely to disrupt their journeys. These road closures are for the week running Monday, March 6, to Sunday, March 12.
Newcastle
One lane closed due to roadworks on A189 at A1056 Killingworth Way. On the roundabout.
Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on B1600 Stoddart Street between Shieldfield Lane and Union Street. Until December.
Kingsway in both directions closed due to roadworks between Fenham Hall Drive and Queensway. Until March 29.
Redheugh Bridge Road closed due to roadworks from Shot Factory Lane to A695 Railway Street. Until June.
Saville Row closed due to roadworks from Northumberland Street to North Street. Until April 9.
Ouseburn Road in both directions closed due to roadworks between Burnville (Shieldfield) and Red Walk (Jesmond). Until March 10.
Northumberland
A1171 Westmorland Way in both directions closed due to roadworks between Crow Hall Lane and A1172 Station Road. Until March 31.
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A697 at B6344. Until April 14.
A686 in both directions closed due to roadworks between the Langley Castle Hotel and A69. Until April 10.
Main Road in both directions closed due to resurfacing work from Ovingham Road (Wylam) to Tyne Gardens (Ovingham). Until March 10.
North Tyneside
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A188 Benton Lane at West Farm Avenue. Until June.
One lane closed due to roadworks on A189 at A1056 Killingworth Way. On the roundabout. Near to High Gosforth Park. Until April 7.
Temporary traffic lights due to long-term roadworks on Liddell Street near Clive Street, North Shields. Until May 2024.
Bell Street in both directions closed due to roadworks between Liddell Street and Union Quay (North Shields). Until May 2024.
Tyne Street in both directions closed due to roadworks from Union Street to Stephenson Street. Until May 15.
Park Avenue, Shiremoor, in both directions closed due to roadworks between Park Grove and Park Crescent. Until March 6.
Park Crescent, Shiremoor, in both directions closed due to roadworks between Park Avenue and Park Grove. Until March 15.
South Tyneside
B1298 New Road in both directions closed due to roadworks from Cotswold Lane to South Crescent (Jarrow). Until March 19.
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on B1301 Dean Road at Hartington Terrace. Until March 10.
West Holborn in both directions closed due to roadworks from Laygate Street to Weetman Street. Until 6pm on March 31.
Sunderland Road in both directions closed due to resurfacing work from Carnoustie Drive to Parkshiel. Between 9:00 and 17:00 Mondays to Fridays until March 8.
Sunderland
No through traffic allowed due to roadworks on Burdon Lane in both directions between Woodham Drive (Ryhope, Sunderland) and Burdon Turn-off (Burdon, Sunderland). Construction of the new Ryhope to Doxford Link road. Until August.
No through traffic allowed due to roadworks on Redburn Row in both directions between Black Boy Road and B1284. Until September.
Electric Avenue in both directions closed due to roadworks from A182 Philadelphia Lane to Tesla Street. Until March 6.
No through traffic allowed due to roadworks on Ettrick Grove in both directions between Shrewsbury Crescent and Ettrick Gardens. Until March 10.
County Durham
Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on B1285 Station Road at Station Estate North. Until March 16.
Wallnook Lane in both directions closed due to roadworks between Front Terrace and Firs Terrace. Until December 2024.
Gateshead
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on Cushy Cow Lane from Hexham Old Road to Mullen Drive. Until July.
Temporary traffic lights due to water main work on Greenford Lane at Gateshead. Until March 10.
Traffic taking turns due to roadworks on Kepier Chare in both directions near Bracken Way. Until March 8.
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on Hexham Old Road between Grange Drive and B6317. Until July.
Rose Street, Teams in both directions closed due to roadworks between Morrison Street and Autumn Drive. Until May 3.
Narrow lanes and speed restriction of 50mph due to major widening works on A1 Western Bypass in both directions from J67 Kingsway South (Coalhouse Roundabout) to A1(M) J65 / A194M Birtley. Work to create an extra lane in each direction. Until May 2025.
