Nearly one in 20 listed buildings in Leeds are “at risk” of severe neglect or decay, according to a report published by Leeds City Council officers.
The latest buildings at risk register is set to be discussed by councillors next week, and lists 112 Grade I and II listed sites in the city that are falling into disrepair.
These sites include Temple Mill in Holbeck, Calverley Old Hall in Woodhall Road and Ledston Hall in east Leeds.
It also contains 15 council-owned sites including Adel Reformatory, Stank Hall in Dewsbury Road and Abbey Mills in Kirkstall.
The report, set to go before Leeds City Council’s joint plans panel says the authority is taking “active measures” to reduce the number of buildings at risk, with prominent listed buildings set to be brought back into use soon.
It added: “The ongoing survey of the city’s listed buildings has shown that the number of Buildings at Risk has decreased since the last report and accounts for 4.4 percent of the 2,478 listed buildings in the city.
“The council is actively involved with the majority of buildings at risk which has resulted in four listed buildings being repaired and brought back into use since the last report in 2019."
The council is prioritising work on the "big three" - Temple Works, Hunslet Mill, and the First White Cloth Hall.
“The number of council-owned buildings at risk has largely remained the same as 2019, but the planned disposal of several properties should show a marked reduction by the next report in 2021.”
At added that iconic Leeds buildings including First White Cloth Hall, Victoria Mills, and former Majestic Cinema were set to be brought back into use.
The cinema, as well as Centenary House in North Street; Ida Convalescent Hospital in Ireland Wood and the Old Block at Cookridge Hospital were all taken off the buildings at risk register in the past year.
Members of Leeds City Council’s joint plans panel will meet to discuss the plans on Thursday, December 17.
