Full Leeds United squad revealed for Liverpool contest as Marcelo Bielsa names exciting trio

By Joe Donnohue

Leeds United host Liverpool at Elland Road this afternoon with the Whites hoping for a first home win against the Reds in 21 years.

Liverpool were last defeated on this ground back in 2000, courtesy of four Mark Viduka strikes on a brisk November afternoon.

The Whites' last win over Jurgen Klopp's side in all competitions was 20 years and five months ago - a 2-1 scoreline at Anfield, when Gerard Houllier was in the home dugout.

This time around, it is Klopp and Marcelo Bielsa who will do battle, five months on from their last meeting at Elland Road.

Leeds clawed back a late equaliser in that game with thanks to Diego Llorente's forehead.

Much of the pre-match debate surrounding this fixture focused upon the availability of key players for both sides.

Brazilian internationals throughout the Premier League were threatened with a five-day ban by football's governing body FIFA after clubs prohibited them from joining up with the national team during September's international break.

That threat has now been waived, meaning Raphinha, Alisson and Fabinho can all feature this afternoon. Roberto Firmino would also have been affected but is expected to be ruled out through injury.

As for Leeds, they'll be without Robin Koch after Bielsa confirmed his absence but they'll be buoyed by the return of Junior Firpo and Mateusz Klich after their bout with covid.

The Argentinian also confirmed that Stuart Dallas would be part of the 20-man squad after he left the Northern Ireland squad due to personal reasons last week.

There's also a place in the matchday squad for youngsters Charlie Cresswell, Crysencio Summerville and Joe Gelhardt with the trio impressive for the Under-23's in recent weeks.

Full Leeds United squad: Meslier, Klaesson, Ayling, Cooper, Llorente, Struijk, Dallas, Firpo, Harrison, Raphinha, Phillips, Klich, Bamford, James, Summerville, Cresswell, Gelhardt, Forshaw, Roberts, Rodrigo
