Full Leeds United squad expected to face Southampton with duo set for return

Leeds United supporters face an anxious wait to see if key figures will be in the squad to face Southampton.

Kalvin Phillips was forced to withdraw from the England squad during the international break due to a calf issue, whilst there are also doubts over the availability of Raphinha considering he completed 71 minutes for Brazil less than 48 hours ago.

The importance of the pair to the side cannot be understated but Marcelo Bielsa eased worries in his pre-match press conference by claiming Phillips could be involved.

Regarding Raphinha, the Argentine claimed his involvement would hinge on factors such as his playing time with Brazil and the efficiency of his rest, therefore it us uncertain whether he will feature.

The 24-year-old was substituted after 71 minutes in Brazil's win over Uruguay, in which he scored a brace, but has not been ruled out of the clash with Southampton.

However, there is more certainty regarding Adam Forshaw and Crysencio Summerville, who will both be back in contention for a place in the squad.

The former has endured a torrid time battling injury since 2019 and recently suffered a setback after a brief return, but could potentially feature at St Mary's Stadium.

Summerville was absent for the win over Watford due to illness but recently made a comeback with the under-23s.

There will no place in the squad for defender Robin Koch, who is in the USA for surgery on a pelvic problem, whilst Luke Ayling and Patrick Bamford also remained sidelined.

Bielsa claimed Ayling is at the 'halfway stage' of his recovery, whilst no timescale has been given on the returns of Koch and Bamford.

Full Leeds United squad expected: Illan Meslier, Junior Firpo, Adam Forshaw, Liam Cooper, Raphinha, Tyler Roberts, Kristoffer Klaesson, Diego Llorente, Stuart Dallas, Rodrigo, Daniel James, Pascal Struijk, Jack Harrison, Kalvin Phillips, Joe Gelhardt, Charlie Cresswell, Cody Drameh, Crysencio Summerville, Sam Greenwood, Mateusz Klich, Liam McCarron, Jamie Shackleton.
