Full extent of Mohamed Salah head injury confirmed as Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp gives timescale for return

Mohamed Salah has been ruled out of Liverpool's Champions League semi-final with Barcelona on Tuesday with concussion.

But the Reds forward will be available for the Premier League finale at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

Salah left the field on a stretcher after being caught on the head by Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka during the second half of the Reds' 3-2 Premier League win at St James' Park on Saturday.

The Egyptian subsequently underwent tests at Melwood where it was confirmed he had suffered a concussion.

Now Salah has joined Roberto Firmino on the sidelines for Tuesday's visit of Barcelona, with Jurgen Klopp's side looking to overturn a 3-0 deficit from the first leg in Camp Nou last week.

“It's a concussion,” confirmed Klopp, speaking at Anfield on Monday. “So that means he could not even be allowed to play.

“He feels okay but he's not good enough for a medical point of view. That's all. I can confirm 100% he will not play.

“Will he be okay for the weekend? Yes.”

Klopp added: “Two of the world's best strikers are unavailable tomorrow.

“That's not the best idea when you need to score four goals against Barcelona. It doesn't make life easier but we will try to do it.

“We want to celebrate the Champions League campaign. If we can do it, wonderful. If not, then fail in the most beautiful way.

“What will the approach be? We will try to win the game. That's all, if that makes sense.

“The situation against Barcelona is not exactly the situation we want to have. But we cannot play against Barcelona and tell the world 'watch this!' and after 10 minutes we are level and then we try to turn it around.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola pays tribute to Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool with huge Barcelona compliment

“It's not like this. We will try to win the game and get the result. In this specific moment we have an opportunity to get through to the next round and we should try it, together with our supporters.

“It has been a long season. We have at least a little chance to make it even longer and if not these are the last two home games of an incredible season.

“We should celebrate it with a good performance on the pitch and a very, very good performance in the stands.”
