Shocking aerial pictures have revealed the true scale of the damage caused by a sink hole that opened up in Liverpool last night.
Roads were closed as shocked residents filmed water rushing down Green Lane and Prescot Road in Old Swan at around 10.30pm on Friday.
Homes were evacuated and water supplies have also been affected in parts of Liverpool, with United Utilities issuing an update this morning.

Thousands of homes were also plunged into darkness after a power outage, although it is unclear if this is directly connected to the sink hole.

The fire service said in a statement: “The incident has generated running water which is affecting the junction of Prescot Road 500 metres west and Green Lane 100 metres north.
“Road closures are in place and several properties in the area are being affected.
“The suspected cause is a ruptured water main but this is not yet confirmed.
“Crews are working to restrict the flow of water and utilities companies are in attendance.”
The service added that road closures are in place and the public have been asked to avoid the area.

Shocking new aerial footage of the sink hole has now emerged as workers from United Utilities inspect the damage.
A massive cordon has also been erected next to the 15ft hole with a number of bus diversions still in place.
