Full extent of coronavirus outbreak at secure Nottinghamshire hospital

More than 60 members of staff and patients at a secure Nottinghamshire hospital have contracted coronavirus, health bosses have said.

A spokeswoman for the Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust confirmed Rampton Hospital had been affected by the second wave of the pandemic.

Since September 1, she said eight patients and 54 members of staff at the hospital had tested positive for the virus.

She said: "We are carrying out our internal test and trace procedures and all infection, prevention and control procedures are being followed to control the spread of the virus.

"Family members have been notified and kept informed.

"We know that this is a concerning time for staff and patients and we are offering extra wellbeing support including increased psychological support for both patients and staff.

"We want to take this opportunity to thank our staff for the amazing job they do and particularly at this time, to safeguard our patients and their colleagues. We are incredibly proud of them all."

Rampton, in Retford, is one of three secure hospitals in England where all patients admitted are detained under the Mental Health Act.

It comes after Nottinghamshire Live reported that certain areas to the north of the county had experienced a significant rise in recent coronavirus cases.
