Full details of Phase 4 BusConnects changes launching next month

The newest phase of BusConnects will launch next month and provide major changes to the bus network on the southside.

Phase 4 will be rolled out on October 16 and will see the existing 79, 79A and 40 routes replaced. This phase was due to become operational in August but was delayed due to driver shortages.

G-Spine routes will be implemented as well as a new Route 60 bus. A new contraflow bus lane has been developed on Winetavern St to assist the rollout of Phase 4.

Here is a full explanation of the changes being made.

G-Spine

The G-Spine (G1/G2) will replace the existing number 40 route. The G1 will travel from Red Cow Luas, Ballyfermot, city centre and Spencer Dock while the G2 will serve Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, Ballyfermot, city centre and Spencer Dock.

On weekdays, the routes are timetabled to run every 10 to 15 minutes from 6am to 10pm, every 30 minutes from 10pm to 12am, every 60 minutes from 12am to 5am and every 30 minutes from 5am to 6am.

The National Transport Authority say that the G1 can be used to interchange with Luas Red line services at Red Cow and with Irish Rail services at Park West and Cherry Orchard Station . Passengers can also use the G1 and G2 to interchange with the nearby Luas Red line at Connolly Station and Spencer Doc, as well as Irish Rail services at Connolly.

In the City centre, both the G1 and the G2 allow for interchange with many other bus services including the new Orbital N4 at New Wapping Street. You can also interchange with Bus Eireann services at nearby Busaras. In the West, the G2 allows for interchange with a wide range of TFI services at Liffey Valley.

Route 60

The new route 60 will travel between Red Cow Luas, Clondalkin, Cherry Orchard, Ballyfermot, Decies Rd, Islandbridge, city centre and Sir John Rogerson’s Quay. It is expected to operate every 60 minutes throughout the week.

Route 60 can be used to interchange with Luas Red line services at Red Cow, Irish Rail services at Park West and Cherry Orchard as well as Luas and Irish Rail services at Heuston and nearby Connolly Station. In the city centre, it allows for interchange with many other TFI bus services as well as Bus Eireann services at nearby Busaras.
