Full details confirmed for Arsenal's Community Shield clash against Liverpool

The date and kick-off time for Arsenal’s clash with Liverpool in the Community Shield have been confirmed.

The Gunners will face Jurgen Klopp’s side at Wembley Stadium later this month in the traditional curtain raiser for the English football season.

The match will take place at Wembley on Saturday, August 29, with kick-off scheduled for 4.30 pm and will be played behind closed doors, with BT Sport broadcasting the tie in the UK.

All matches at every level in England have been played behind closed doors since football returned following lockdown due to COVID-19.

While it was reported on Wednesday morning that Arsenal fans' hopes of a quick return to stadiums for the 2020/21 season have been dealt a blow, with the FA set to pull the plug on a planned trial to reintroduce supporters into Wembley for the clash.

The Daily Mail reports that the FA have now accepted that it won't be feasible due to the continued uncertainty over COVID-19 outbreaks.

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport will update their guidance for sport after the Government’s review of the localised North West lockdown on August 15.

But with the Community Shield scheduled to take place later this month, the FA believe there will be insufficient time to organise the event accordingly should a limited capacity be permitted.

The governing body had reportedly hoped to be able to open Wembley at a one-quarter capacity, allowing approximately 22,500 fans of both the Gunners and Liverpool to attend the Community Shield.
