Full breakdown of Adam Thielen’s contract extension with Vikings

Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen signed a four-year, $64.2 million extension with the Vikings last week. That included a $9 million signing bonus and $33 million guaranteed.

Per Spotrac, here’s how Thielen’s contract will breakdown over the next six seasons:

2019

Total Cash: $14.3 million
Cap Hit: $8.1 million
Dead Cap: $16.1 million

2020

Total Cash: $10 million
Cap Hit: $12.8 million
Dead Cap: $8.2 million

The Vikings could part ways with Thielen for $5.4 million after the 2020 season.

2021

Total Cash: $11.6 million
Cap Hit: $13.4 million
Dead Cap: $5.4 million

2022

Total Cash: $12.6 million
Cap Hit: $14.4 million
Dead Cap: $3.6 million

2023

Total Cash: $13.7 million
Cap Hit: $15.5 million
Dead Cap: $1.8 million

2024

Total Cash: $14.6 million
Cap Hit: $14.6 million
Dead Cap: $0

Thielen would be 34 in the final season of his contract. While we are all rooting for Thielen, it seems unlikely that Thielen will be performing at a level that warrants being paid $14.6 million. This contract is front-loaded, as is the case with most NFL contracts.

If Thielen were to play out the entirety of his contract, he’ll make more than $91 million throughout his NFL career.
