Full Arsenal squad revealed for West Ham United clash as Mikel Arteta faces midfield conundrum

Arsenal will be looking to bounce back from Thursday evening's 1-0 defeat to Olympiacos in the UEFA Europa League when they travel to the London Stadium to face West Ham United this afternoon, kick-off 3:00pm.

The Gunners, who defeated David Moyes' side 2-1 in the reverse fixture at the Emirates Stadium all the way back in September, saw their five-game unbeaten run in all competitions come to an end in midweek thanks to Youssef El-Arabi's second half goal.

Despite being beaten by Olympiacos, Arsenal had a big enough lead from the first-leg of their last-16 tie to progress to the quarter-finals of the Europa League, meaning they now face a showdown with Slavia Prague next month.

But before the Gunners can switch their attentions back to European action, they have a trip to the London Stadium to focus on, as they look to try and move to within one point of north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who they defeated 2-1 last weekend, in the table, certainly for a few hours at least.

But if Arsenal are to reduce the gap on their nearest rivals to just a point they will have to get the better of a West Ham side who have surprised almost everyone this season. The Hammers are currently fifth in the table and are still in with a decent chance of securing a UEFA Champions League spot ahead of next season.

With that said, Arsenal will have to be at their very best if they are to get anything from the contest.

Previewing the trip across the capital, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said: "We know we're going to have a really tough game. They're in great form. They've been really consistent.

"They know really well what to do and how to hurt opponents. I know David really well and I'm sure he's going to prepare a really difficult game against us."

Although the Hammers recruited well last summer, signing the likes of Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal, not many predicted them to be riding high in the Premier League table at this stage of the campaign. For Arteta, however, he is not all that surprised to see them doing so well this term.

"Not really. I think they have a really strong squad, a great manager and coaching staff," added the Gunners manager when asked if the Hammers had surprised him this season.

"They have given him some time. They started the season with some doubts but I know what David is capable of doing. He gets the club together, working really hard for each other.

"I think they have recruited really well and you can start to see what David has done. Obviously they have a little bit more time during the weeks to prepare football matches and training.

"I think they're in great form and they're a really dangerous team."

Ahead of this afternoon's clash at the London Stadium, the Gunners have been boosted by the return of Bukayo Saka from injury.

The England international missed the defeat to Olympiacos with a hamstring problem and was a doubt for the clash with the Hammers. However, Arsenal have confirmed that he will be available for selection after making a successful return to training.

Elsewhere, winger Willian could return if he successfully recovers from a tight left calf that kept him out against Olympiacos. The club have said that he will be assessed ahead of kick-off.

After making changes against the Greek outfit, it is likely that Arteta will make some again this afternoon, meaning the likes of Thomas Partey, Martin Odegaard and Alexandre Lacazette will be pushing for returns.

Full Arsenal squad available to face West Ham:

Goalkeepers: Bernd Leno, Mat Ryan & Runar Alex Runarsson.

Defenders: Hector Bellerin, Cedric Soares, David Luiz, Gabriel Magalhaes, Rob Holding, Calum Chambers, Pablo Mari & Kieran Tierney.

Midfielders: Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny, Dani Ceballos, Emile Smith Rowe, Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Willian (if fit), Reiss Nelson & Nicolas Pepe.

Strikers: Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Eddie Nketiah & Gabriel Martinelli.
