The Fulham Supporters’ Trust have said vice-chairman Tony Khan was wrong to tell a fan to “go to hell” after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat against Burnley.
Khan made the comment during a row on Twitter as frustration boiled over following the loss at Turf Moor which left Fulham five points from safety.
In a series of posts he promised “multiple signings” this month, but one fan replied, saying: “Leave my club please.” Khan responded: “Never. I’ll die at this club. Go to hell.”
Khan, son of Fulham owner Shahid Khan, claimed the fan telling him to leave had been critical of him in the past and even gave him stick after Fulham secured promotion.
The fan denied he had criticised Khan after promotion, but during the exchange he questioned why he last week took up a new role as president of All Elite Wrestling in America at a time when Fulham are struggling against relegation.
Tom Greatrex, chairman of the Fulham Supporters’ Trust, said on Monday: “Whatever the context, and however frustrated, it’s not on to tell a fan to go to hell on social media. On reflection, Tony Khan, I’m sure, will understand that.
“Fans, players and directors should all now focus on pulling together so that the last 16 games of the season are the best they can be.”
After the Burnley defeat, Khan wrote on Twitter: “To the squad, staff and supporters, some people are waving the white flag and saying we should surrender. We can close this gap. It’s on our players to fight and win.”
