'Fulham terrify me' - Newcastle United fans make the same point as relegation battle tightens

Newcastle United’s relegation fears took another turn for the worse last night as Fulham closed the gap once more.

In the space of just 14 days, Newcastle’s 10-point gap over third from bottom Fulham has been significantly cut down to three.

The Cottagers’ fourth victory of the season, which moved them to within touching distance of Steve Bruce’s side in 17th, came on Saturday night against bottom of the pile Sheffield United.

Ademola Lookman scored the only goal of the game just after the hour mark to increase the pressure on Newcastle, who play their game in hand away to Manchester United today.

After the result, the Geordie faithful were certainly feeling the heat.

MUFC V NUFC - LEE RYDER'S FRIDAY PREVIEW

Here’s what was said on Twitter...

@MFFooty: Fulham terrify me. I’m almost certain they’re going to catch us. They do not play like a team 3rd from bottom. They’re brave and strong. They play with energy, pace, and intent. Everything that we’re not.

@nufcsaintmax: After their next game, Fulham will only have 2 games left against bottom 7 teams (us and Burnley). We have 5, fixtures definitely make it ours to lose still.

@NUFCgallowgate: #NUFC have taken 8 points from the last 39 available (13 games). Fulham have taken 8 from the last 12 (4 games)

@Marklights_23: Fulham have cut the gap from 10 to just 3 points and have all the momentum. Without a management change we are down. I’m not being negative, just realistic.

@GregJPower: Looking at our fixtures for the rest of the season we may be able to pick up 12 points. Fulham have a tougher run in but are showing more fight than us. Got a horrible feeling once again we will be in the championship again next season.

@MsolomonAUS: Only three points now between @NUFC and Fulham, Steve.

Mike Ashley - I'd be quite concerned if I were you.

@evan_kiropoulos: I’d be a lot more worried about Fulham winning if we were in a relegation battle, but according to the pundits we aren’t so I’m sure we’ll be fine.

@nufc_seb: Its very possible that by the end of next weeks game week, we'll be in 18th. Fulham have a winnable game against Palace and, right now, despite their recent form issues, i cant see us getting anything against Wolves.

Some did choose to look on the positive side, though...

@Whitby_MagNUFC: Let’s just calm down. Fulham have a run of tough fixtures after Palace (all fixtures are tough I know some will say).Season not decided now, let’s hope we can scrape a few wins.

@nashy1977: Yes we are bad but Fulham have won 4 games all season. 1 nil tonight against Sheff utd - isn't exactly flying form. We are in pole position to stay up and we will stay up.

@danny_j28: #nufc fan base on social media is embarrassing. Fulham have beat bottom of the league and a poor Everton that we also beat, whilst we’ve played Chelsea and United tomorrow. What did we expect? We’ll have easier games when they play the big boys #chillout.

@Jonny_Snaith: Our loss to Chelsea & Fulham beating the worst team in the league has caused meltdown. What about the next few games (after tomorrow) when we have a run of nicer fixtures whilst Fulham have awful ones?
