Fulham's promotion hopes hit by injury blow to star striker

Nottingham Forest’s promotion rivals Fulham have been dealt a blow with the news that leading scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic is set for a spell on the sidelines.

The 18-goal striker left the pitch on a stretcher during Fulham’s 1-0 win at Hull City on Saturday, sparking fears he could be missing for a chunk of the campaign.

Those fears have been relaxed somewhat after it emerged that the Serbian could only miss the next three weeks after it emerged his ankle injury isn't as bad as first thought.

"Initially, we were nervous and he left the stadium in a boot," Parker told the BBC.

“But he's quite robust."

Fulham’s star man is the joint-leading marksman in the Championship with his 18 in 26 outings, and losing him for a lengthy period of time may well have had serious implications for their promotion bid.

"It is not ideal when your leading goalscorer gets injured," said Parker.

"We were worried it might have be a little bit longer but, although there is damage there, we hope we can turn him around in a few weeks."

In other Championship news, Charlie Mulgrew has requested to end his season-long at Wigan, opting instead to return to parent club Blackburn Rovers having made 13 appearances at the DW Stadium.t
