Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic banned for three games after Leeds elbow

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic will miss the next three matches after being hit with retrospective action by the Football Association for his elbow on Leeds defender Ben White in Saturday's match at Elland Road.

The news is a fresh blow to Fulham's hopes of automatic promotion, with Scott Parker's side set to be without the Championship's joint-top scorer for the upcoming matches against QPR, Birmingham City and play-off rivals Nottingham Forest.

Mitrovic lead with his elbow off-the-ball in a clash with White in the opening two minutes of Leeds' 3-0 win, which moved Marcelo Bielsa's side back to the top of the Championship and left Fulham with back-to-back defeats since the restart.

Referee Tony Harrington did not see the incident but Mitrovic subsequently admitted violent conduct following an investigation by the FA.

An FA statement read: "Fulham FC’s Aleksandar Mitrovic has been suspended for three matches following the EFL Championship fixture between Leeds United FC and Fulham FC on Saturday 27 June 2020.

"The striker admitted his behaviour in or around the third minute of the match was in breach of FA Rule E1(a) and constituted violent conduct, in an incident which was not seen by match officials but was caught on video."

Fulham will also be without Neeskens Kebano for Tuesday's trip to Loftus Road after the winger was sent off for two bookable offences in Yorkshire.

Defeat to Leeds left Parker's side seven points below second-placed West Brom as the Cottagers eye an immediate return to the Premier League.
