Fulham red cards chaos could have say in Nottingham Forest relegation battle after Man Utd drama

Nottingham Forest fans will be keeping an eye on a number of results when Premier League football returns after the international break, such is the closeness of the race to stay in the league this season.

As many as nine teams are heavily involved in the battle for survival. Just four points separate Southampton, who are bottom of the table, and Crystal Palace in 12th place.

Forest currently sit in 16th position in the league, two points above 18th placed West Ham United. A dramatic 2-1 loss against Newcastle on Friday night dragged them closer to the bottom three after the latest round of games.

There are still a few twists and turns to go, and one team who could have a big say on what the bottom end of the table looks like over the next few weeks is Fulham. Marco Silva’s side are themselves chasing European football at the end of the season.

In their next four games they face Bournemouth away, West Ham United at home, Everton away and Leeds United at home. All four teams are involved in the race for survival along with Forest.

Reds fans will be keeping an eye on those games and hoping that Fulham can go on a winning run, taking points off their rivals. There could however be a factor that now plays a part in the games.

While in FA Cup quarter-final action against Manchester United, they were shown two red cards on the pitch, Willian being sent off for a handball in the box, while star striker Aleksander Mitrovic was sent off for pushing the referee in the aftermath. Manager Marco Silva was also dismissed for approaching the ref while he was at the VAR monitor.

Willian is likely to be banned for one game after his red card, while Mitrovic could face a lengthy suspension, depending on what further action the FA take, if any, on the incident. It means that the striker could well miss all four games against the relegation battling sides.

The Serbian striker has scored 12 goals in all competitions so far this season, while Willian has impressed with three goals and three assists in the Premier League. Forest will be hoping that Fulham don’t feel their absences too much in the upcoming games.
