Former Fulham and Middlesbrough defender Fernando Amorebieta faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after he was sent off for biting an opponent's head.
Amorebieta, who now plays for Paraguayan first division side Cerro Punto, was sent off in the 83rd minute of the match after he completely lost his cool and dug his teeth into Nestor Camacho's head.
Camacho himself was sent off just one minute later after replays revealed he had flailed an elbow towards Amorebieta.
The incidents took place in an emotionally charged match which saw league leaders Olimpia Asuncion run out as 4-2 winners. The result left Amorebieta's Cerro Punto in third place.
In the video posted online, Camacho can be seen backing into Amorebieta, before the pair start to get feisty.
Both can be seen pushing against each other, before Amorebieta suddenly chews down on his opponent's head.
Camacho falls to the floor and theatrically rolls around while the referee rushes towards Amorebieta, brandishing a red card.
Amorebieta can expect to spend a lengthy spell on the sidelines following the incident, which was clearly caught on camera and shared widely.
Amorebieta's physical style of play earned him plaudits with both Middlesbrough and Fulham , where he is regarded as a cult hero by both.
The Venezuelan came through the youth system at Athletic Bilbao before spending three years in England with Fulham and Boro.
He then moved to Sporting Gijon in Spain and Independiente in Argentina, before moving to current club Cerro Punto.
