Fulham launch investigation after Cyrus Christie accuses fans of allegedly racially abusing his sister

Fulham have launched an investigation into claims made by Cyrus Christie after the defender accused the club's fans of racially abusing his sister.

The incident allegedly occurred during the Cottagers' 1-0 defeat to Barnsley on the opening day of the Championship season at Oakwell.

Christie, who did not start the match but came on as a substitute in the 33rd minute, claimed on Twitter that his sister was attacked by a supporter and his wife in the stands.

After learning about the incident, Fulham confirmed they were looking into the matter and vowed to take the "strongest possible action" against those involved.

"Fulham Football Club is investigating an incident which took place in the away end at the Barnsley v Fulham fixture this afternoon," a club statement read.

"Should the perpetrators be identified, the Club will be taking the strongest possible action."

The 28-year-old took to Twitter shortly after the game had finished to criticise the "shameful" actions of the individuals involved.

“To the Fulham fan that decided to hit my sister at the game today and his wife who justified his action with racist remarks I hope your proud of yourself and feel like a big man,” he wrote on Twitter.

“You’ll get what’s coming to you. Regardless how you felt about the result your actions are shameful.”

The incident capped a miserable day for the west London side as Scott Parker's men went down to a strike from Luke Thomas as they came away pointless from Yorkshire.
