Fulham join Sheffield United in race for £15m Middlesbrough star

Fulham have joined the race for Middlesbrough star Britt Assombalonga.

The striker has heavily been linked with a move away from the Riverside in the last six months, despite netting 16 goals in 46 appearances for Boro this season.

Bristol City were said to be keen on the striker in January but he stayed where he was, and there is now fresh interest in him.

Newly-promoted Sheffield United are rumoured to be ramping up their interest in the striker, who cost Boro £15m when they signed him from Nottingham Forest in 2017.

The Blades are keen to add a striker for their return to the Premier League and have also been linked with Swansea City star Oliver McBurnie, but he now looks set to follow Graham Potter to Brighton & Hove Albion.

That means they look likely to follow through on their interest in Assombalonga, but they face competition from Fulham.

The Cottagers were relegated back to the Championship this season and Football Insider claim they are on the lookout for a striker in case they lose Aleksandar Mitrovic.

They have a hefty budget for this summer thanks to Premier League parachute payments and would have no trouble paying the striker's high wages.

Whilst Bristol City fans have named Assombalonga as the player they would most like to sign, it seems the Robins would face significant competition for his signature.
