Fulham 2 Everton 0: Tom Cairney and Ryan Babel on target as Scott Parker gets first win

Tom Cairney struck his first goal since last season's play-off final as relegated Fulham sealed their first points under Scott Parker with a 2-0 victory over Everton.

Parker, who took the reins at Craven Cottage on a caretaker basis in late February, has overseen a marked improvement in performances at Fulham, and finally got his reward on Saturday afternoon.

The home side, who had lost nine on the spin prior to Everton's visit, shaded the first period, going closest when Mitrovic thundered a strike off the crossbar after neat build-up play from Calum Chambers and Ryan Babel.

But they were made to wait until after the interval to make the breakthrough, when Cairney swept Babel's low cross past Jordan Pickford at his near post.

The goal prompted the visitors into life for a brief spell, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin sending a fine effort onto the base of Sergio Rico's post after a smart reverse pass from Gylfi Sigurdsson.

But it was former Liverpool man Babel who put the contest to bed, racing onto a smart through pass from Mitrovic before lifting the ball over a diving Pickford to seal the points.
