NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: A man wanted under an arrest warrant in an arms case has been shot dead. His body was found in a durian plantation hut in Sichon district of this southern province on Saturday, police said.
Pol Capt Nonthachai Nopparat, a Sichon police investigator, said he was informed of the discovery at about 11pm. A team of investigators and forensic doctors from Sichon Hospital was dispatched to the durian plantation on the Khao Kahong mountain in tambon Khao Noi early Sunday.
The body of Taweesak Na Ayutthaya, 38, was found lying in the hut. He had been shot six times in the body and was believed to have died at least 12 hours previously.
An investigation revealed that Taweesak left his home in Village Group 2 of tambon Khao Noi on Dec 28 for the plantation but did not return home on the next day as expected. His younger brother, Suchol Ongpudee, went to the durian plantation on Saturday night to look for him, only to find that Taweesak had been killed.
Police believed at least two men were involved in the murder of Taweesak.
Pol Col Chokdee Rakwatanapong, the Sichon police superintendent, said Taweesak had earlier been jailed for the murder of his uncle. After his release from prison about two years ago, Taweesak returned to his home village, where he was recently arrested in an arms case. He was released on bail and escaped. A warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest.
